First Bike!

Jason and I have been wondering when would be a good time to get Lily her first bike. She hasn’t really shown a lot of interest in bikes and, quite frankly, the idea of her speeding down one of the many hills around our house on a bike scares the crap out of me so we’ve never really pushed the issue. Last weekend we met some friends on a nearby trail and their two older daughters were speed racers on their bikes! Lily was amazed and for the first time actually expressed interest in riding a bike. Thus began our quest to find the perfect bike for her. Many hours were spent scouring the internets trying to decide what to buy. Steel frame or aluminum frame? Big box store or local bike shop? 12″ or 16″? Buy now or wait until her birthday?

Obviously, we decided to go ahead and buy now. Her birthday isn’t until the end of July and summer is almost over by then, kind of. Anyway…she loves it and it’s super cute! She’s doing a pretty good job pedaling but forgets to watch where she is going because she’s so focused on watching her feet. She’s pretty much got braking down which is good because of all of those darn hills.

Five for Friday: More Lily-Speak

1. Tangle = braid

2. Windin’ = blowing

3. Benty = bent over/crooked

4. Bein’ Jokey = being silly

5. Tarter sauce with no green things = mayonnaise

Childs Play

*Cameron has been showing off a lot lately. The boy has no fear and wants to make sure we know this. He often calls out “Mommy/Daddy watch this!” while he’s climbing on the couch, balancing himself between the couch and the ottoman, standing on a chair, jumping off the top of the roller coaster, etc. Last night we were playing in the yard and he climbed on the climber/slide thing and was playing with the steering wheel. He realized that he could spin the wheel really hard and it would go around and around a few times. This thrilled him to no end and he started with the “Mommy Daddy, look at this!” and then spinning the steering wheel and looking so proud of himself.

*We were laughing at Cam’s antics with the slide steering wheel and Lily said, “We have to blog this!” All the while with a huge smile on her face because she knew she had shocked us!

*Lily likes to be the first to get to the top of the stairs. Once there she pulls the gate across and says, “Ticket, please.” We must all give her a ticket (touch her hand) to gain entrance to the second floor. She’s pretty lenient though. Jason didn’t have enough money to buy a ticket the other night so she gave him a free pass.

*Cam is big enough now to ride the roller coaster by himself. Lily’s new game: she is the ride host at Cedar Point. She stands on the treadmill (in the ride host booth) and gives Cam a safety speech before he can take his ride. “Please keep your hands and feet inside the car. Thank you. Enjoy your day at Cedar Point, America’s Roller Coast!”

Five for Friday: Things That Have Been Keeping Me Busy

1. Work

2. Kids

3. Housework. Our kids have a lot of toys and lately I’ve really been fretting about keeping them organized. Also, I’m pretty sure someone comes into the house and uses our dishes while we’re at work because there is no way our dishwasher should be full of dirty dishes as often as it is. AND…We’re mowing our own lawn this year instead of hiring a lawn care service. GASP! Middle class sob story…I have to cut my own grass! WAIL!

4. TV. I know…BUT, the season is almost over and I can’t miss anything now. I think we have at least three shows on the DVR that we need to try to get caught up on this weekend. Fat chance of that happening though!

5. Running after the kids are in bed. Jason finally got me hooked on the Nike+ ipod thing. I love it and I actually even ran while listening to music last night! It was Jason’s play list though so not quite as poppy as I like for working out. Must create my own workout playlist in itunes soon. Also need to consult the tech department (aka: Jason) on how to get my runs to appear in the sidebar of this blog.
