Our thoughts on the ups and downs of life
In the spirit of Halloween I thought I would share some pictures of me wearing costumes! YAY! A few weeks ago I asked my mom to email me some pictures from my years as a dancing superstar. No, I’m not talking about country line dancing in high school (WHAT were we thinking?) or drunk dancing in college bars. While I can’t possibly hold a candle to the dancing awesomeness that is Briana, I did take ballet and tap for about 7 years in my early childhood at the Nancy Sauers School of Dance. The thing I remember most from dance class was rolling out the big black mat (it smelled like tires) and having head stand competitions at the end of every class.
On to the pictures! My hope was that I could show Lily these pictures and she would see that even Mommy did dance class and it was a lot of fun. She loved seeing the pictures but I don’t know that they really had any impact on her feelings about dance class (though she is doing better!). Also, you’ll notice I have the same miserable look on my face in each of these pictures! Perhaps if I had looked THRILLED they would have been better motivational tools!
What is that blue thing on my head?

Obviously I was being tortured during this photo shoot.

I think this costume is in a box in my garage. May need to dig that out for Lily to play with. LOVE the feather in the hat! And, YES! That is a scanned image of a Polaroid! I can’t even imagine how frustrating it must have been to carry around that big camera and then all of the pictures all day. Oh, woe is me! HOW did we survive before digital cameras?

Lucky us…Cameron has been waking up at 4:45 the past two mornings! I know, I know, I shouldn’t complain since that is the FIRST time he’s waking up since going to bed by 8:00 the night before but still. C’mon kid, cut us some slack! Humans were not made to get out of bed at 4:45.
This morning Jason got up to try and get Cam back to sleep. I was in and out of sleep during the 10 or 15 minutes he was in with Cameron. At one point I heard crying and I thought, “Wow. I can’t believe Cam is crying like that while Jason is in there with him.” Then I realized it was Lily. I stumbled across the hall to her room and found her laying with her feet in the upper right corner of her bed and her head about half way down against the bed rail. Cozy. She was kind of whimpering and I asked her what was wrong. The following is our conversation.
Me: Lily, are you OK?
Lily: Mommy. I want to be a grown up so I can ride the grown up rides.
I thought she was going to say she wanted to be a grown up so she could get out of bed all by herself!
Me: Don’t worry honey, you’ll be a grown up soon enough.
Lily: MmmmK *deep breaths*
Me: Let’s get you back up on your pillow.
Lily: Mmmmm Hmmmm *flops down*
I guess she was dreaming about roller coasters! That’s my girl!
So, I just cleaned my pump parts in the Quick Clean Micro Steam bag (which apparently looks like a bag of popcorn when it’s in the microwave). This was the first use of a new bag…the last bag in the box, in fact. I started wondering if I will buy more bags once I’m done with this one. It can be used 20 times so that should get me through until right before Thanksgiving. Maybe I’ll stop pumping then, but maybe I won’t. I feel so wishy-washy about this whole pumping business. I’m still pumping because I want to make sure my supply stays up for the weekends when he nurses during the day. We still nurse on demand when we’re together though he is definitely less interested than he was even just a few weeks ago.
Cameron has been off of bottles since right before his birthday. We just started giving him breast milk in a sippy cup one day and he was fine with that so we went with it. Then a couple of weeks ago we started giving him whole milk in a sippy cup with his meals and he has done great with this. He gets pumped milk in his sippy at Kelly’s and she gives him whole milk after he’s finished the breast milk. That reminds me…I still have two bags of breast milk in the freezer that I need to remember to give him this weekend because there’s no way I’m wasting that stuff!
For the most part it seems like Cam wants to nurse first thing in the morning and then again around noon, 5:30 and bedtime. I’m thinking that he’ll probably drop the 5:30 nursing before too long. I don’t really see him giving up the morning and bedtime sessions anytime soon though. I feel like things would be so much easier if I didn’t have to having pumping thrown into the mix. If I was with him all day I would just nurse on demand and follow his lead with cutting out sessions. As it is, I’m afraid if I cut out my mid-day pump that will affect my supply and just cause frustration for both of us. It’s hard sometimes to get a read on his nursing patterns over the course of a two day weekend.
I think for now I’ll keep up the pumping until around Thanksgiving and then evaluate things again. We’ll have a four day weekend that might give me a chance to see what kind of schedule Little Man is on with nursing. That will also give me about 20 more times to have a conversation with my co-workers about sterilizing my breastpump parts when they ask if I’m making popcorn in the microwave! SCORE!
Cameron thinks he is hilarious. I mean, I think he’s darn funny too but he really thinks he is very funny! I have never seen a baby/child crack up at himself more than Cam does. We’ll be sitting at the table and he’ll be inspecting his food and just give a little “heh, heh” laugh and a big grin. Of course as soon as the rest of us react to his little chuckle he puts on a full out Cameron Extravaganza to get more laughs out of us. Some days Lily seems to make it her goal to get Cameron to laugh rather than eat. They make each other laugh so much! LOVE. THIS….except when it goes on too long and neither of them have touched their food. Jason and I have contemplated splitting them up and one of us taking Lily and eating at her little table in the kitchen while the other stays in the dining room with Cameron. What fun would that be though?
Cam’s newest Act of Hilarity is pouring water on himself in the bath. He fills the cup with water and then pours it out on his belly and the cracks up like it’s the funniest thing he’s ever seen! Ah…I LOVE this age!
1. The elevator is taking too long
2. I’m wearing comfortable shoes
3. I think about how many calories I can burn if I climb the stairs
4. It’s green! No electricity needed for me to take the stairs!
5. The creepy guy who talks to me too much is waiting for the elevator
