Hilarious Baby Laughing Video!

This is from a couple of weeks ago.

Bedtime Friends & Rituals

Lily must have the following friends in her bed with her before she can sleep:

*Backyardigans pillow
*Princess pillow
*Soft blankie – pink knitted blanket
*Paci – this is a little stuffed parrot that was in the favor box at her friend M’s birthday party. I think she called him name* Paci because it sounds kind of like parrot?
*Yellow bear – Build-A-Bear that she made when we took her to make bears for herself and Cameron before he was born.
*Cinderella stuffed doll
*Sleeping Beauty stuffed doll
*Ariel stuffed doll
*Belle stuffed doll
*Giselle (from Enchanted) stuffed doll – Giselle was only recently welcomed to the circle of Bedtime Friends. Giselle arrived at our house around the time of Lily’s birthday. She was excited and would include Giselle in all of her princess games but at bedtime she would put her in the toy basket to sleep alone while the rest of the princesses joined Lily in bed. I don’t know how she did it but somehow Giselle won Lily over and she now gets to live the good life in bed with everyone else.
*One or more of the following stuffed dolls – Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Tasha, Uniqua, Prince Phillip, The Beast.

By my count that’s at least 12 friends that Lily sleeps with at night. Believe me she would sleep with more if we let her but we try to keep things at a reasonable level so she has a bed to, you know, sleep on.

After she’s sufficiently tucked in there is the singing of the three night-night songs: Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star, Hmm-Hm-Hmmm (Lullaby Song), and Rock-a-bye Baby. Then comes the most, um, interesting part of the night. Lily likes to fall asleep to music so there are a few choices in her room. We ask her what music she wants to listen to and she almost always responds with, “My princess music, my froggy music and my big music.”

Princess music – Princess themed music box that has the three major princesses dancing around as it spins. It plays ‘A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes.’

Froggy music – This is what she calls the music box/clock from Pottery Barn Kids. I have NO idea where the name ‘froggy music’ came from.

Big music – This is the CD player/alarm clock that we use to play a lullaby CD of Beatles songs. Soothing.

I don’t know how she can stand having all three things playing at the same time but she seems to like it. Don’t tell but I sometimes only wind the music boxes up a little bit so they won’t play as long. SHHHH!

Though it sounds like Lily is kind of high maintenance about bedtime she is really VERY laid back about it in general which is nice when we travel. She doesn’t HAVE to have all of the stuff mentioed above…she just likes it when we’re at home!

*This is what Lily says when she names something. “I call him name ______.” Like it’s some kind of official decree! LOVE THIS!

Video Proof

As promised, here is video proof that my boy CAN take a few steps! It looks like he’s been playing that Dizzy Bats game…you know, put your head on a baseball bat and spin around 20 times then try to walk.

Baby Steps!

Hey, guess what! We have a new walker in the house! Yes, Cameron started taking some steps last week and takes more and more every day. It’s SO fun to watch him try out his new ‘land legs’. There are times that I can tell he wants to take steps but he’s not quite sure about it. At the beginning of the week he would only walk to us when coaxed but I did catch him taking unsolicited steps once this weekend! His current record is about 8 steps at a time before his knees buckle and he goes back to crawling.

After many, many failed attempts I finally managed to get a short video of him walking but apparently my upload process didn’t work this morning so the video proof will have to wait until later. You’ll just have to take my word for it right now!

Photo Essay: The Baby Wearer

True or False: Food Edition *Answers*

A. TRUEI didn’t eat pizza until I was 15 years old. I even remember when I tried it in high school. I was at Pizza Hut with some friends and I didn’t want to seem weird so I just sucked it up and tried it. Gotta love peer pressure! I was like, DAMN! This is delicious! Why haven’t I been eating this all along? Seriously, it was like a flavor explosion in my mouth! I LOVED it! I don’t know why I had resisted it for so many years. I think it was something about too many things being all mixed together or something equally as lame.

B. FALSEMy hatrid for mushrooms burns with the fiery passion of a thousand suns. I actually don’t mind mushrooms. I don’t really seek them out but I’ll eat them if they’re in my food. Jason’s hatrid for mushrooms burns with the fiery passion of a thousand suns. I really just don’t get it. I mean, I’m the LAST person who should talk about not liking certain foods but COME ON! I’ll can even understand not wanting to eat something that has mushrooms chopped up and in the sauce but he won’t even pick around big giant chunks of mushrooms. I honsetly don’t think there is any normal food (we’re not talking bugs or worms or liver or things like they have to eat on Survivor) that I wouldn’t at least just pick around. He even goes so far as to read the ingredient list on a Lean Cuisine to make sure there isn’t mushroom powder in it.

C. FALSEI remember ruining my favorite shirt as a child when I spilled my plate of spaghetti with sauce. I didn’t eat sauce on my spaghetti until after Jason and I were married. I don’t really remember why I started eating the sauce or why I never ate it before. I suspect it was another case of ‘too many foods mixed together’ and I think that bothered me as a child. Take lasagna for example. My mom loves lasagna but we rarely had it when I was a kid because I wouldn’t even think of trying it. One night she FORCED me to try it and I got myself so worked up that I was gagging and heaving the tiny little bite of lasagna into the trash can. (LOVE YOU MOM!) I guess I see where Lily gets some of her theatrics.

D. TRUEIn college I pretty much lived on plain chicken breasts, mac ‘n cheese, Totino’s Party Pizzas and original flavor Baked Lays. Thanks to Bri and Jennifer for pointing out the beer (which I thought went without saying) and cookie dough. I think we always had a big 10 lb tub of cookie dough from Sam’s Club in the fridge. Delish! The plain chicken breasts…I don’t know…what college kid has seasonings? At least I was eating protein. The very first dinner I ever cooked for Jason was Totino’s and mac ‘n cheese with an Baked Lays as an appetizer. We are SO fancy!

E. FALSEI can’t stand ketchup but I love mustard and mayonnaise. Reverse that. I like ketchup but am repulsed by mustard and mayonnaise. Even the thought of them kind of makes my throat close up. This is TOTALLY different than Jason’s hatrid of mushrooms. You cannot pick around a sauce like this. Once it’s there it’s there in all of its nasty glory. Ugh. Ketchup: I pretty much only eat it in excess with french fries. I’m definitely the person at McDonald’s who is asking for extra ketchup. I don’t love it so much that I put it on eggs or anything and I haven’t put it on steak in YEARS!

Why does everything seem to think that I hate/don’t eat vegetables? I love vegetables! In fact, I’m on the lookout for clever ways to prepare new veggies since we often get stuck in a veggie rut with our meals (peas, corn, green beans). I even eat broccoli and asparagus…I’m the only one in the house who will eat them though so it just doesn’t happen all that often.

So, yeah…I used to be a pretty picky eater but I’m reformed. I’ll try about anything (EXCEPT mustard and maynnaise *shudder*) and Jason is amazed at how much more I eat now than when we first met.
