Our thoughts on the ups and downs of life
I did a little home photo shoot with Cameron this morning. I think this is my favorite picture of him right now. He’s so darn cute!

Even though Cameron is not yet 4 weeks old he’s already made known some of his likes and dislikes. To date, he seems to have more intense dislikes than likes but I think that is to be expected!
Likes:
The hairdryer – We figured out this handy trick when Lily was itty bitty. If he’s really losing it or just needs a little help to get calmed down we hold him closely and turn on the hairdryer for a super shot of white noise. Works like a charm!
The picture behind the couch – A lovely landscape with bright, contrasting colors.
The Moby Wrap – I LOVE the new wrap that I got for him! Yesterday I wore him for well over an hour while I did housework…he snoozed the entire time!
Dislikes:
His car seat/the car – Cameron may be the only baby who absolutely HATES riding in the car. There are no midnight rides around town to get him to sleep. In fact, during most rides in the car he screams like he’s being tortured for at least five minutes…often longer. I feel so helpless during his car fits and it’s awful to get him out of his seat once we’ve stopped to find him soaked with sweat. Poor baby.
Anthing else that is like his car seat (bouncy seat, etc) – Maybe he just doesn’t like being confined?
Baths – He’s only had a few baths so far and I think some of that is due to the fact that he just screams and scrams while we bathe him.
Getting undressed – Makes diaper changes intersting!
Tummy Time – We don’t do much of this yet but he fusses the entire time whenever we do. I remember that Lily hated it too in the beginning.
Life with a 2 year old can be quite challenging but also very entertaining! I wanted to share a few things about Lily that make us laugh. Enjoy!
She loves to sing songs. We have a video of her rendition of Row, Row, Row Your Boat that I need to share. Apparently there are extra verses to that song!
According to Lily there are three elevators in our house. One in the dining room, one in the hallway and one in the entry. She runs to these areas and tells us “I’m in the elevator!” We are often invited to join her. She always goes to either the 3rd or 11th floors.
She has a couple of phrases that she says occasionally that we have no idea what they mean. She will say something that sounds like ‘Bobby-Co-Are’ and then follow it with ‘Baby Car, Baby Seat’. No idea what this means. She also say ‘P J H’. Sometimes we say these things to her and she either gets really excited or just yells ‘NO’! We can’t tell if she’s happy that we’re speaking her secret language or mad that we’ve cracked the code!
When I’m nursing Cameron she will sometimes ask for a drink of my milk but she always declines if I ask her if she really wants a drink! The funniest thing is that she was sitting on the potty the other day and then pinched her nipples and asked Jason if he wanted a drink of her milk!
She loves to narrate her actions. She’ll make a funny sound and then laugh and say ‘Mommy, I just said PLBBRT (repeating the sound)”.
She loves to give us direction (orders). She wants us to make faces at her or say things, etc. Sometimes if Jason and I are talking to each other instead of her she tells us to ‘Stop talking’.
If she asks for something and we tell her ‘not now’ or ‘later’ she will often say “I DO want it”…like we didn’t think she was serious the first time!
I’m sure there is more but this is what I can think of now!
We visited the doctor today for Cameron’s two week checkup. Our little man now weighs 8 lbs, 15 oz and measured 21.25 inches long! We’re not completely convinced on his length since this would be a two inch growth in length in just two weeks…it’s kind of hard to measure newborns. So, Cameron is definitely gaining weight well! Hooray! I’m so happy that breastfeeding is going well!
Things have been going well for all of us! Over the past few nights Cameron has been sleeping in his hammock in our room. You may think that this isn’t a big deal but with the exception of the last few nights Cameron would only sleep if he was being held by one of us. No big deal but this led to Jason and I taking turns sleeping with Cameron in the recliner…not exactly the most comfortable sleeping arrangement!
We can’t believe how much more relaxed and confident we are with Cameron than we were with Lily. I think this has helped us to deal with the lack of sleep and general unpredictability of having a newborn. With Lily I remember feeling totally lost for awhile and I think some of that was due to not being in ‘control’ of the situation. We’re much more laid back with things now!
What else… Cameron had his first bath a few days ago and he did not enjoy it as evidenced by this photo.

He’s generally a pretty happy little guy except when he has a burp stuck or is trying to poop. Hey, I would be grumpy too if I had gas issues!
Lily was home with us for much of the past two weeks so we all had an opportunity to get used to our new little family. She has been great with Cameron and hasn’t really showed many signs of jealousy. She does get a little worked up sometimes when I’m feeding Cameron but overall she’s been nothing but loving towards him. She always asks to hold him or pet him or kiss him. Very sweet!
I think this is a neat comparison of Lily and Cameron. I can definitely see similarities between the two of them but as Cameron gets older I think he looks less and less like Lily. What do you think?

We added a couple of new slideshows to our Photos page. One has a few fun pictures from August and September and the other has pictures from Cameron’s first few days with us.
