I must admit that I’m somewhat spoiled having a girl first and experiencing the world that is shopping for little girl clothing. There are seemingly endless clothing options for little girls; each dress and outfit is cuter than the last! Even when shopping for Lily I can remember thinking that I didn’t understand why the moms of boys complained about the lack of options for their sons. I was seeing loads of cute little boy clothing! Now that the tables have turned and I’m shopping for a little boy I’m finally understanding their frustrations! It’s very true that most baby clothing stores, like Gymboree, or baby clothing sections at Target or Old Navy are about 60% – 70% girl clothes. There are some very cute boy clothes but just not quite the variety that exists for little girls. Despite this, I’ve been having a lot of fun shopping for Baby Boy! We’ve been able to score some great deals on the clearance racks. Who knows, maybe having a boy will be good on our budget! Here is some of the loot we’ve picked up recently!

I just realized this morning that we’re into double digits on days left in the pregnancy! Nothing much to report really. Baby Boy continues to grow and get stronger! We go to the doctor again for a regular checkup on Monday.
We’ve added belly pics from 25 weeks under the Belly Pics – 2007 link to the right. There are also photos from the month of May on the Photos page. Enjoy!
It’s funny to try and think about the world from the perspective of an almost 2 year old child. I understand that at this age children are struggling with a tremendous amount of internal conflict. They want to be ‘big’ and do things on their own while still having Mom and Dad close by for comfort and support. Lily is in a big NO phase right now as well as an ‘I’ll do it’ or ‘Mine’ or ‘Me’ phase. Here are a few examples that have made me and Jason laugh lately.
Example #1
Last Saturday morning.
Me: I’m hungry.
Lily: No, I’m hungry. (Said with a strong emphasis on I’m.)
I’m not sure why we can’t both be hungry at the same time!
Example #2
This morning.
Jason: I brought that stuff downstairs for you, Melissa.
Lily: No, I brought it. (Same emphasis on I.)
Clearly a lie as she had been sitting on the ottoman in the living room the entire time!
Example #3
Again this morning as she tried to wash her hands at the kitchen sink and was struggling with turning on the water.
Me: Lily, do you need help?
(silence while she climbs nearly into the sink to better reach the faucet handle)
Me: Do you need help yet?
Lily: No, I do that.
She did eventually get the water turned on and had a great time washing her hands!
I guess this is more of a ‘family’ blog than just a ‘baby’ blog so a story about Lily is appropriate!
She is obsessed with roller coasters and rides! She comes by it honestly as Jason and I also love roller coasters and try to make it to an amusement park at least once each summer.
We drive past some power sub-station or something every day and Lily always says “coasters” when she sees it. I guess it would kind of look like a steel roller coaster to an almost 2 year old!
We were driving to Grandma and Grandpa’s house yesterday (about an hour away) and happened to go past some little community fair as we got near their house. Lily saw the rides from the car and got so excited! She was yelling “Hi, coasters!” and waving from her car seat. Then she started saying “Whee, whee, whee” and waving her arms around. All of this while laughing hysterically! Needless to say she was NOT happy as we drove on past. We felt so bad for her and she just cried and cried for the coasters. Poor girl.
There is a fair in town next week though so we’re planning to take her to that!
Baby Boy is definitely getting bigger! This morning I can feel his kicks about an inch or two above my belly button! He was pretty quiet over the weekend so I wonder if he’s been working on growing. I can’t believe I’m only a few weeks away from the third trimester! We had a doctor appointment last Monday and everything is still looking good! We go back again in three weeks.
